- The thud - sound made by Alexei when he lands
one of them big ones....LOL..triples or quads for instance. He makes
what we call a "thudding" sound on the ice and so we called
it.....you
guessed it: THE THUD...LOL...starring Mr. Alexei Yagudin as the main
star...LOL
Becky and I had the pleasure of hearing the thud live back
in Boston...and then she said to me...WOW...we just heard our first
"live" thud...or something to that effect
Yes, and it was a big one...LOL...full "special" effects etc.
Uh...yes, there are after effects to this thud....one who
hears it never forgets
It's sort of like an earthquake....but instead, you feel the effects
sort of within you...think of the song by Tori Amos...called
"Little Earthquakes"...but put it in a positive way instead
There's also been controversial talks about "the
thud" meaning other things
I'll leave it up to you to figure out the rest...LOL...it just really
takes perhaps way too much imagination, and how should I say?...a very
big and talented skater to make for such a good recipe...LOL..!!!
Just remember though, after experiencing the full effects of "THE
THUD" one may need our famous clod
drinks...hee, hee, hee.
What else??? Oh...and beware of trying to fight the effects
of...THE THUD....LOL...you're never safe...once you've heard it
once...you'll want more and more and more....LOL, I think you get the
picture

- Majestic scenery - "Majestic
scenery" came about as I was discussing the beautiful scenery at
Colorado Springs. Somehow Alexei got included in this but it was
decided he wasn't merely scenery, he was MAJESTIC scenery. I think
"some" people (not naming any names) might have been
thinking of some of Alexei's physical attributes when we use this term
too.
- "Oh dear" - I don't need to explain
this to anyone who has seen the videotape of Gladiator I made at Sun
Valley when I saw Alexei skate in person for the very first time.
For those of you who haven't seen it, "oh, dear" is the
comment I made repeatedly (and much too audibly) during the rolling on
the ice Alexei did during the death scene. Each time he would roll I
would say it a wee bit louder until finally after the third time
Laurie nudged me and ask me/told me to stop. You gotta remember this
was the first time I had ever seen Alexei in person and there he was
rolling on the ice wearing those form fitting "thights".
There were a LOT of things I COULD have said but luckily didn't. We
suspect that part of the reason Alexei never wore that costume again
was because of my comments AND how he saw the tights looked under the
lights (yep, he got to see the video)----drat, LOL.
- Podium shots (and Kim makes a stab at a decorous
definition of this, LOL..) - Hmmmm...looks like you guys have laid
down the "gauntlet" regarding the podium pic. OK, gavels
be you-know-what, here goes:
The podium pic is special because you can tell just how
happy Alexei was to be standing at the top of the podium and have won
the gold at that SA comp. It was obviously a pretty exciting moment
for him. We now refer to other photos where he is equally
"happy" as "podium pics". And another bonus, that
particular photo can also be used to determine just how good the
resolution is on your computer, right Laurie?
So how'd I do.......
Sadly, the originating photo of that phrase has been
taken offline, but errr...if you see a "podium pic" you'd
know.
Of course, the better your computer's resolution, the
faster you'll understand...

- Russian stroking - literally, the technique of skating that
makes Russian skaters so fast...the other definition...ummm...
- Edges - in skating, they are the 2 sides of a skate blade
that make curves on the ice; the deeper the edge, the greater the
curve and the better the skater. In the "naughty" sense,
it's more of a body line thing..
